The primary purpose of the project is to ensure that agricultural and environmental services are provided across the Shire of Cranbrook by making a financial contribution to the employment for the professional management of the Gillamii Centre (and also the Cranbrook Public Library) and the building overheads.

Cranbrook Shire Local Planning Strategy 2016-2023 Physical Features & the Environment identified Gillamii Centre as the local group to deliver agricultural and environment services to the shire.

The management of catchments is important because an activity on one property may well impact on adjoining properties. Historically, a number of Landcare and community groups that have been active throughout the Shire led on a local scale by farmers concerned with land degradation issues. These groups have consolidated over time with key natural resource management activity being led by the not for profit group, the Gillamii Centre. Located in Cranbrook townsite, The Gillamii Centre aims to lead and inspire the local agricultural community and the wider community at large to be involved with sustainable land use through training, education and knowledge. It was purpose built to encourage and lead in the efficient use of resources across the community while protecting and enhancing the natural environment.
