Conserving Biodiversity & Assisting Sustainable Natural Resources in the Gillamii Catchment (12 Individual Projects)

Period: 2004-07

Funding Body: Australian Government Envirofund, Natural Heritage Trust

Funds: $284,951

Project Officers: Mark Ward, Megan Jones

Summary

Australian Government Envirofund funded projects (through the Natural Heritage Trust) that conserved biodiversity and assisted in sustainable natural resource. Notably in our sub region this project subsidised the material costs for fencing of remnant bushland, and seed/seedlings planting for ecological revegetation on private properties.

Outcome

Gillamii Centre project officers coordinated the

  • Initial project planning – identification of private properties requiring ecological restoration and remnant bushland fencing, identification of species selection and mapping of areas. Ordered seed/seedlings on behalf of the property owner.

  • Monitoring and evaluation – assisted with the owner in-kind contribution of planting of seed/seedlings using Gillamii equipment Chatfield tree planter, Wilson ripper mounder, Comveg direct seeder and hand planters. Assessed property owners in-kind contribution of erecting fences around revegetation sites and remnant bushland. Assessed the progress of site establishment over a 12-18month period.

  • Reporting results directly to envirofund – a series of images, maps and landholders agreements.

Large scale revegetation and fencing of remnant bushland took place through the Gillamii sub region under the following Envirofund projects;
